The summer holidays have arrived and are in full swing and (thanks to Corona) we’re looking forward to lots of socially distanced plans with friends. Even more so, because, last week, I became a cocktail whizz. Granted, only with 3. But that’s enough selection to impress those at my next social gathering. Especially if I let them know they’re based on our favourite retro sweets that we used to get equally excited by when we were ehem (much) younger!
If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll go crazy over Asda’s latest gin range inspired by retro sweet shop flavours. Rhubarb and Custard, Cola Cube and last but not least Strawberry Laces. Each at £18 for a 70cl and worth every penny but be warned, they’re in demand (Cola Cube being the hardest to get hold of).
Thanks to Asda, I was fortunate enough to learn how to create the perfect drink with each of these Gins and now I’m going to pass these recipes onto you. Trust me, if I can put them together, so can you. They’re easy to follow and pretty fool proof. And in my opinion, the Rhubarb & Custard is to die for. (Something I didn’t expect considering I was banking it would be the Strawberry laces cocktail). Enjoy making them, and you can thank me later!
Rhubarb & Custard
You’ll need a hi-ball glass.
– 50ml Asda Rhubarb & Custard Gin
– 15ml Lemon juice
– 10ml Vanilla Syrup
– 20ml Liquid Egg
– White Cream Soda top-up
Add the first 4 ingredients to your shaker, without ice, and shake for 10 seconds. Then add ice and shake for a further 15 seconds. Fine strain over cubed ice into the glass. Add the Cream Soda, then stir gently to combine.
Garnish with a strip of Rhubarb twisted into the glass for the optimum finish. In my case, I used a slice of lemon as I didn’t have any rhubard to hand.
You’ll need an old-fashioned / short tumbler.
– 50ml Asda Cola Cube Gin
– 15ml Raspberry cordial
– 1 tspn Asda Es Morello Cherry Jam
– 25ml Lime Juice
– Raspberry and Rose Soda top
Add all ingredients to the shaker with ice and shake well. Fine strain into your glass and garnish with 3 whole cherries.
You’ll need a champagne flute.
– 35ml Asda Strawberry Laces Gin
– 20ml Asda Villa Maria Rose Wine
– 3x large cubes of fresh watermelon
– 15ml Agave syrup
– 15ml Lemon juice
– Lemon sherbet
– Soda Top
Firstly, rim the glass with strawberry sherbet. In your shaker, add the gin and watermelon. Muddle to combine the two. Add all the other ingredients and shake hard for 15 seconds. Fine strain into your glass and top with soda.
Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.
